Make Health and Safety a Priority in Your Business Now

Making health and safety, a priority is a must for any business. As long as you are an employer, you have a duty of care to ensure that the people within your enterprise are safe in their work. In short, you need to ensure that you are providing a suitable and safe working environment. As the CEO, you need to make sure that you are minimising risks. After all, you don’t want to be at the behest of a lawsuit.

Managing Health and Safety

Many people view health and safety as a paperwork exercise. This is a negative attitude to have. While it can be a long winded task, ensuring that you have a safe working environment is business critical. You cannot afford to be lax when it comes to issues of health of safety.

One of the most important things that you can do is to appoint a health and safety officer. Ensure that risk assessments are carried out on a regular basis. Start training your employees on the basics of health and safety. Ensure that you keep a paper trail and audit of the health and safety actions that you complete. After all, if an event does occur, you need to provide evidence in order to prove that you are not liable.

Of course, you can always speak with an experienced personal injury attorney. This is to ensure that you are on the right lines when it comes to health and safety matters in the workplace.

Putting the Wheels in Motion

Take a look at the kind of business that you operate. If you run a small office, you will need to ensure that you have adequate lighting, computer screens and furniture in place. For factories and warehouses, this process can become a little more complicated. Do endeavour to make sure that you are aware of how machinery, chemicals and other apparatus in your business should be handled. This is the key to making sure that your business is compliant in all aspects of the word.

Training

The focus is on you to implement these procedures. But, it is down to your employees to make sure that they are compliant. Do ensure that you are briefing your team on their responsibilities within the workplace. Ensure that they are committed to the policies that you have established. Training sessions are vital as is appointing the right person to oversee this within your workplace.

Do make sure that you complete a training log. But, don’t think that one session of training is enough. You need to make sure that you are refreshing knowledge on a regular basis. Always get your employees to sign and document any sessions that you have provided. That way, you will have confirmation of your efforts should the unfortunate happen.

Making health and safety, your priority is about protecting you, your employees and your business. Now is the time to do this.
